DMCAR proactively shapes local, state, and national policy in partnership with the Colorado Association of REALTORS®, the National Association of REALTORS®, and the broader business community to protect and enhance real property ownership and the interests of Denver’s commercial real estate industry.

Past Policy Work

DMCAR successfully advocated for commercial property tax relief from the State of Colorado.

 

DMCAR successfully opposed a Right-of-First-Refusal bill that would have decimated the local multifamily market and inhibited much-needed development of housing units in our state.
DMCAR continues to advocate for construction defects litigation reform, to facilitate the development of for-sale affordable housing product in Colorado.

Participated as a critical stakeholder in Denver’s Green Roofs and Energize Denver Initiatives.

DMCAR leads on proposed legislation to update the Gallagher Amendment and reform the property tax assessment rate setting system for Colorado.
DMCAR leads on new policy to implement a more transparent citizen-initiated ballot item process.
Successfully led opposition to removal of the Denver Camping Ban, Denver’s Initiative 300, which would have made way for permanent homeless encampments across the city in 2018.
Successfully led opposition to a graduated income tax proposal, Amendment 74, in 2018.
DMCAR created and ushered in the Broker Lien Law in 2012.
